The difference between Nazi ideology and Fascist ideology was about Zionism. The first denied completely any status to the Jews and wanted to eliminate them. It is comical the reference to the Ten Commandments in Roman sauce ("X"), and of course the Bapti-fascists will turn the head on the other side, because these guys are the protectors of them, but they are alluding to the Final Antichrist whose symbol is the "X". Now the British were not friendly with an independent state of Israel. In the post-World War II era, Italy successfully managed to suppress the fascist political strand from within, starting with the last two years of the war when Rome joined the global push against the Nazi-fascist alliance. Italy’s post-war constitution has gone to great lengths to confront any form of fascism that continued to lurk within Italian society.
It was only natural, then, that on many occasions, the revolutionary forces that had a tremendous impact on shaping the Italian political discourse after the war found common ground with the Palestinian quest for freedom and the Palestinian people’s ongoing fight against Zionism and its reactionary allies anywhere in the world.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. As the truly radical left in Italy persists in its political hibernation – a process that began soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s – far-right forces have made great strides, allowing in recent years, the likes of Salvini and his racist hoards to return to the political arena. Expectedly, Salvini’s ascendency began paving the road for restoring a long-dormant neo-Zionist-fascist alliance.
Concurrently, the rise of far-right forces in Italy is forcing all political parties in the country’s parliament to redefine their own political agendas by inching closer to the right in a desperate attempt to appeal to the emboldened far-right constituency.
Pro-Israel Zionist groups, in Italy and elsewhere, are now exploiting the country’s fractious political scene to advance Tel Aviv’s global agenda.
On January 17, the Italian government unanimously adopted the erroneous and self-serving definition of antisemitism, as envisaged by the pro-Israel International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, which equates antisemitism with anti-zionism.
The troubling “working definition” has little to do with racism and everything with politics, since Zionism is a modern political ideology, and is neither a race nor a religion. An Italian equivalent of this bizarre undertaking would be equating antifascism and anti-Italian or anti-Catholic sentiment. However, this apparent oddity makes perfect sense when analysed within a historiographical context.
Anti-Zionism critics often describe the Zionist movement as fascist. This seemingly haphazard analogy is fully justifiable on historical grounds.
Indeed, what many are not aware of is that, during their formative years, Zionist and Fascist ideologies, had similar intellectual roots and numerous overlappings in terms of their philosophical and political structures. Some of the founding fathers of Zionism, especially revisionist Zionists, regarded themselves as ideological fascists, and their progression from Fascism to Zionism was a logical one, necessitated by political expediency only.

In truth, Jabotinsky was not Mussolini’s only link to Zionism, but one of many important allies who proved consequential in later years. Goldman wrote in his autobiography “The Autobiography of Nahum Goldman: Sixty Years of Jewish Life” that Mussolini was a great admirer of Zionism.
“You must create a Jewish state. I am a Zionist, and I told Dr Weizmann so. You must have a real country, not that ridiculous National Home that the British have offered you. I will help you create a Jewish state,” Goldmann wrote, conveying Mussolini’s message to the Zionist leadership at the time.
Mussolini’s enthusiasm to establish a “Jewish state” paralleled the British plot to turn the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which committed the British crown to the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine.
In October 1933, the head of the Jewish Agency in Geneva, Victor Jacobson, wrote to Chaim Weizmann, who served as the President of the World Zionist Organization, and later as the first President of Israel, that, “Mussolini is eager to open even wider the doors of Palestine to Jewish immigration, particularly to the refugees coming from Germany”.
In his afterword to the book, “Stato e Libertà” – State and Freedom – Italian diplomat Sergio Minerbi wrote: “Mussolini thought that it was impossible to reconcile Jews and Arabs and that they had to be politically separated, so he floated the idea of the partition of Palestine”.

All of this changed in 1936 when Mussolini’s son-in-law, Galeazzo Ciano, was appointed as Italy’s foreign minister. Italy’s fascist party was then compelled to part ways with the Zionist leadership, leading to Mussolini’s decision not to meet with Jabotinsky.
Following the triumph of the Zionist movement, crowned in the establishment of Israel on the ruins of historic Palestine in May 1948, Zionists have, once again, successfully managed to rebrand their movement as a progressive force, though it never truly abandoned its fascist ideology.
The Nation-state law of July 2018, which defines Israel as an ethnic-racial state was one of many proofs that Israel remains, until this day, fully committed to Fascism.
To say that Zionism is a form of fascism is neither an overstatement or a haphazard claim. Indeed, the root causes of both ideologies should be apparent to any astute student of history.
The fact that Salvini and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, are now renewing or, at least, openly embracing the old bond between these two destructive ideologies, reflects two troubling realities – on the one hand, it speaks of Italy’s failure to uproot Fascism as a political model following World War II, and, on the other hand, the true ideological basis of Zionism, thus the State of Israel itself.

If you read it (entirely translated) you immediately perceive that Italian Fascism was not opposed to German Fascism as pertain Zionism, but they were working in a sort of complimentary occult collaboration. Nazism had the goal to uproot the Jews from Eurasia forcing the end of disapora against the command of God. Mussolini and the Jews: The Italian Anti-Jewish Turning Point of 1938

The Italian racial laws of 1938 were, without a shadow of a doubt, a national disgrace, the responsibility of which falls entirely on Mussolini and on those who, out of cowardice or servility, did nothing to prevent them.
Respect for the victims of racial discrimination, however, cannot and must not prevent us from approaching the subject with the necessary detachment and calm judgment.
For too many years, history has been tainted by preconceptions and convenient schematisms that have led us far from the truth. The history of the Jewish people itself is marked by massacres and persecutions due to a prejudice—the accusation of Catholics having killed Jesus—to which others have been added over the centuries: usury, Jewish internationalism aimed at dominating the world through control of national economies, sexual deviance due to the practice of circumcision, defined as a pact with Christ through the penis, etc.
Hitler ultimately didn't invent anything; he simply took to its extreme consequences, in a horrifying and inhumane way, that anti-Judaism, the offspring of prejudice that is still present today and which dates back a long time.
Daniel Goldhagen, in his book "Hitler's Willing Executioners" (1), states that the Jewish persecution was made possible thanks to the active participation, or at least the indifference, if not outright complacency, of a large portion of the German population; that those who were anti-Semitic were not only Hitler and his followers, but also large segments of society.
This aversion toward Jews is also found in other nations, particularly France and Poland.
In Italy, however, the situation was entirely different. As recognized by authoritative historians such as George L. Mosse, professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, author of "The Nationalization of the Masses" (2), the most comprehensive work on the phenomenon of contemporary totalitarianism, Renzo De Felice, the most profound expert on the history of the Jews under Fascism, and Rabbi Elio Toaff in his book "Being a Jew" (3), among European countries, Italy is one of those least affected by racism.
Unlike National Socialism, which draws its essence from racial purity (biological racism of Enlightenment and Darwinian origin), Fascism was not ideologically racist.
In the Piazza San Sepolcro map of 1919, a veritable ideological manifesto that inspired Fascism in its three phases—movement, regime, and social—there is no trace of racism.

Several Jews held prominent positions in the structures and institutions of the Regime; for example, Margherita Sarfatti, who until 1936 edited the official Fascist magazine "Gerarchia" and authored the biography of Mussolini "DUX," and Ettore Ovazza, editor of the newspaper "La nostra Bandiera," a point of reference for Fascist Judaism.
In his government, Mussolini surrounded himself with a massive presence of Jews: Aldo Finzi, Undersecretary of the Interior, a former aviator in D’Annunzio’s “Serenissima” (his contribution to the birth of the Italian Air Force was fundamental), a member of the Fascist squad, a member of parliament, and a member of the Grand Council of Fascism; Guido Jung, head of the Ministry of Finance from 1932 to 1935, a volunteer in the Abyssinian War despite his 65 years of age; Maurizio Rava, also Jewish, was deputy governor of Libya and general of the Fascist Militia; Paolo Orano, one of the fathers of Italian journalism and rector of the University of Perugia (he died in 1945 in the Anglo-American concentration camp of Padula where he was interned with other fascists); Giuseppe Toeplitz, director of the Banca Commerciale and financier of Mussolini’s newspaper, “Il Popolo d’Italia.” Prefect Dante Almansi, who served as deputy chief of police and chief of staff during Jung's ministry, was also Jewish. Giorgio Del Vecchio, a Jew and professor of International Law, became the first fascist rector of the University of Rome.
Among the first casualties of the fascist revolution were Jews Gino Bolaffi, Bruno Mondolfo, and Duilio Sinigaglia. Many others enthusiastically participated in the Spanish Civil War, such as General Alberto Liuzzi, who earned the gold medal.
Many Italian Jews volunteered for the war in Africa. The victory and the proclamation of the empire were greeted with genuine enthusiasm by the Jewish press. The conquest of Ethiopia was perceived not only as a national issue, but also as a Jewish event, since the area around Gondar and Lake Tana was inhabited by a population of Cushitic race and Jewish religion, the Falasha.
Relations between Jewish institutions—which enjoyed broad autonomy—and the fascist regime were always marked by mutual respect.
Several discussions took place between Sacerdoti, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, and Mussolini, which led, for example, to the establishment of Jewish elementary school sections in municipal schools and the modification of religious textbooks for Jewish children in state schools.
The 1930 Falco law on Italian Jewish communities, enacted by Mussolini to safeguard Jewish artistic, historical, and cultural heritage, was welcomed by Italian Jews.
Jewish artists, directors, and writers, many of them refugees from Germany, were able to work freely in Fascist Italy without any restrictions. (5)
Mussolini's participation in the Jewish Zionist Congress, held—not coincidentally in Italy—in Milan at the end of 1928, was significant.
The Zionist periodical "Israel" expressed appreciation for the attention paid to the Jews, expressing satisfaction(6):

Another little-known event concerns the birth of the Israeli navy, which occurred with Italian support(7).
In October 1934, following an agreement between Mussolini, committed to supporting the nascent Jewish state, and the Zionist leader Jabotinsky, the first 28 Jewish officer cadets arrived in Civitavecchia to be trained at the Maritime School; Over the next three years, nearly 200 graduates will be registered. Their uniforms bear an anchor, the Menorah (the seven-branched candelabrum), and the fasces, and during official ceremonies they salute with an outstretched arm, as Avram Blass, who later became Admiral of the Israeli Navy, recalled.
The formation of the cadres of the future Jewish Navy confirms the good relations established between the Duce and the global Zionist movement led by Chaim Weizmann (the future first president of the State of Israel).
When, with Hitler's rise to power, the never-ending anti-Jewish sentiment revived throughout Europe, fascist Italy, unlike democratic France and England, which closed in like a hedgehog, refusing to host Jews within their borders and colonies, opened its borders(8).
An ad hoc body was created – the Committee for Assistance to Jews in Italy – which allowed approximately ten thousand refugees from Germany, Poland, Hungary, and Romania to find refuge in our country; another 80,000 Jews were able to emigrate to Palestine and other nations thanks to the collaboration of the Italian authorities.
From the port of Trieste, Jewish emigrants traveled on Lloyd Triestino ships, which offered them significant discounts, up to 75% (9).
For a certain period, Mussolini even entertained the idea of establishing the embryo of the future Jewish nation in Ethiopia, an Italian colony where a large community of Falasha (African Jews) lived under the protection of the Italian government.
The only dissenting voices of any significance came from Giovanni Preziosi and his magazine "La vita italiana," whose anti-Semitism was rooted in the Catholic tradition (it is no coincidence that Preziosi was a former priest), and from Telesio Interlandi, who, through the pages of "Tevere," reiterated the clichés of classical anti-Judaism. These arguments, in any case, had little impact on Italian public opinion and even less consideration in Fascist culture (10).
Suddenly (in truth, there were some hints of them during the previous year), in 1938, following a resolution of the Grand Council of Fascism on October 6, the infamous and never-so-much-deprecated racial laws were enacted. Their essence, however, being spiritual in nature, aimed to marginalize Jews without persecuting them, contrary to what was happening in Germany, Eastern Europe, and, in a creeping manner, in some Western democracies.
It should be noted that public opinion, especially Catholic opinion, was not entirely hostile to the measure, considering the 360 signatures on the "Manifesto for the Defense of the Race" by Catholic intellectuals and scientists, as well as by authoritative figures of the Church and Catholicism, such as the founder of the Catholic University, Father Agostino Gemelli, Luigi Gedda, the historic president of Catholic Action, and the future Christian Democrat leader, Amintore Fanfani.
Ultimately, this measure, which today seems abhorrent, was greeted with indifference at the time, as if it were normal, due to the widespread anti-Semitism and racism deeply rooted in all Western countries (let's not forget that in the same years in America, blacks were heavily discriminated against, and racist paramilitary organizations like the Klu Klux Klan were widely tolerated).
Italian racial laws, besides being lax compared to those of Germany and later France, provided for numerous exceptions (relatives of those who died for their country, participants in the March on Rome, military and civil merits, etc.). Some provisions were also deliberately ignored, such as the never-enforced ban on mixed marriages.
In essence, Italian racial legislation aimed to exclude Jews from public office and certain professions, such as notary, and to impose limitations of principle, such as the one prohibiting wealthy Jews from employing Aryans (the restrictions imposed on blacks, in those years and later, by democratic America were much more severe).
Very few Jews left Italy during that period, even though they were allowed to do so (there were no restrictions on free movement. Everyone, except those under special surveillance, carried a passport and could use it whenever they wanted). Indeed, only prominent figures left our country, demonstrating that the racial measures did not profoundly affect the life of the Jewish community, which accepted—albeit reluctantly—the imposed restrictions.
There were no mass emigrations, partly because Italian Jews would have had nowhere to go, given what was happening in the rest of Europe and the outright refusal to welcome them by the so-called democratic nations, England first and foremost.
During the war, despite pressing requests from the Germans, Mussolini consistently refused to hand over Italian Jews to the Nazis and gave orders to implement actual boycotts in the areas controlled by the Italian army (Tunisia, Greece, the Balkans, and southern France) to protect Jews from the Germans (having a very distant Italian relative, often invented, was enough to obtain Italian citizenship and thus escape deportation).
As long as Mussolini had full control of Italy, that is, until July 25, 1943, no Jews were deported to Germany.
Only later, with the Italian Social Republic, when central and northern Italy became a de facto German protectorate, could the Nazis easily impose their will through roundups and deportations. However, unlike other occupied countries, such as Vichy France, where the Germans were able to implement their program of Jewish persecution with the full support of local authorities (who surpassed the Nazis themselves in zeal), in Italy the Germans had to take action themselves due to the staunch opposition of the Fascist government, which always refused to cooperate.
Fascist participation in Jewish roundups was, in fact, sporadic and the work of irregular groups that escaped all control.
The Risiera di San Sabba in Trieste, the only Jewish concentration camp in Italy, was, not coincidentally, established and managed entirely by the Germans.
The Israeli historian Léon Poliakov, founder of the Jewish Documentation Center in Paris, states in his book "Nazism and the Extermination of the Jews" (pages 219, 220):
"Wherever Italian troops penetrated, a protective screen arose in front of the Jews (...). As soon as they arrived in the areas under their jurisdiction, the Italian authorities annulled the provisions decreed against the Jews (...). An open conflict arose between Rome and Berlin over the Jewish problem."
The Attorney General at the trial of Nazi leader Eichmann, Gideon Hausner(11), states in his introductory report:
"The nation dearest to Israel is Italy: for what the civil, diplomatic, and military authorities did to save masses of Jews from France, Greece, and Croatia from deportation; for the attitude assumed by the population toward the Italian Jews themselves; for the aid given to Jewish refugees from every part of Europe who were concentrated in various geographical directions. To move into the Italian zone, whether in Greece or France, was to be saved.
In his book "Racism in Europe," Hebrew University of Jerusalem professor George L. Mosse writes on page 245:
"Germany's main ally, Fascist Italy, sabotaged Nazi Jewish policy in the territories under its control (...). Everywhere in Nazi-occupied Europe, Italian embassies protected Jews capable of applying for and obtaining Italian nationality.
The deportations of Jews began only after the fall of Mussolini, when the Germans occupied Italy."
After much insistence from the Germans, Mussolini finally signed the authorization for the deportation of Yugoslav Jews to Germany in 1942.
As soon as German Minister von Ribbentrop left Rome, the Duce summoned General Robotti and confided to him:
"Minister Ribbentrop was in Rome for three days and pestered me in every way, insisting on the handover of the Yugoslav Jews at all costs. I procrastinated, but since he refused to leave, I had to agree to get him out of my sight. But you invent all the excuses you want for not handing over even one Jew. You say we have no means of transport to take them to Trieste by sea, since it's impossible to do so by land."
And so it happened: never was a Jew, of any nationality, handed over to the Germans with the cooperation of the Italian authorities.
It's true that many Italians, fascists and otherwise, snitched and actively contributed to handing over Jews to the Nazis, often for personal reasons, but it's equally true that many other Italians, fascists and otherwise, worked to save them, risking their lives to do so.
Unfortunately, the proverbial and proven generosity of our people is often contradicted by episodes of pure malice and utter pettiness.
What prompted Mussolini to embark on the path of anti-Jewish sentiment, which led to the expulsion of Jews from public office and the denial of many civil rights, is still a matter of debate among honest historians today.
Having discarded the Marxist thesis of ideological contiguity with Nazism, which, as we have seen, is completely unfounded(12), the most widely accepted theory refers to the alliance with Germany and the resulting harmful influence that Rosenberg's theories had in the late 1930s, even in Italy, which fueled the never-ending Catholic anti-Semitism.
Another probable cause was the Jewish international's aversion to Nazism and, by extension, to Fascism (despite the protests of Italian Jews against that sort of Fatwa(13)) and, finally, the attempt to curb the phenomenon of miscegenation that had exploded in the Italian colonies.
It is no coincidence that the racial laws were promulgated a full 16 years after Mussolini's seizure of power, confirming that for Fascist Italy the Jewish presence in our country did not constitute a problem.
So far, Italy. Let's now try to broaden our perspective and see what was happening in the rest of the world during the same years.
Sweden, for example, sent a delegation from its Parliament to Germany during the same period to study German racial legislation and, together with Norway and Denmark, implemented a eugenics policy that led to the forced sterilization of over 200,000 people between 1934 and 1976, deemed genetically dangerous to racial purity(14).
Between 1899 and 1979, the United States forcibly forced over 65,000 men and women, mostly immigrants, to undergo sterilization for racial improvement and to contain social welfare costs(15).
It's worth noting that while so-called democratic countries forced marginalized and disadvantaged women to undergo sterilization and even banned marriages between "suitable and unsuitable" women, Fascist Italy not only banned the practice but established a system of social protection to support motherhood and childhood, especially for the less wealthy classes.
In South Africa, the Afrikaners, white people of European origin, implemented racial segregation that remained in place until 1994.
At the same time, America undauntedly continued its policy of exterminating natives and rigid racial segregation against blacks. It wasn't until the 1960s that these hateful racist measures were repealed, for which no one ever paid the price, not even in the tribunal of history.
Stalin, not content with massacring millions of Russian peasants (kulaks) who opposed forced collectivization, and just as many political opponents, eliminated, as Russian historian Arkaly Vaksberg documented in his book "Stalin Against Jews," no fewer than 5 million Jews. These Jews, precisely because they were persecuted and killed by the communists, have obviously been forgotten.
A separate chapter concerns the victors' responsibilities: America, England, and Russia knew, saw, and let it happen.
At the end of the war, Germany was reduced to a pile of ruins by Allied bombing, but the railway lines, including the infamous Track 21, from which the wagons loaded with Jews departed for the concentration camps, remained inexplicably intact, and not a single prison camp was deliberately hit by the bombs that hammered every corner of Germany day and night (except for the Buchenwald concentration camp, which was hit by mistake, where Mafalda di Savoia died under the rubble of the Allied bombs)(16).
As demonstrated by a Rainews24 investigation conducted by Angelo Saso using unpublished documents from American archives and testimonies from key figures of the time, the Allies knew everything. In fact, between the beginning of April 1944 and January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz concentration camp was photographed by Allied reconnaissance aircraft no fewer than 30 times.
Yet the order to bomb the railways and access routes to Auschwitz and the other concentration camps, an action that would have prevented the deaths of countless more human beings, was never given. Evidently, the salvation of the Jews was not a priority for the Allies.
Previous attempts to expatriate Jews from Nazi Germany had always been violently opposed by democratic nations(17).
As historian and journalist Filippo Giannini reminds us, Roosevelt had the U.S. Navy intervene to forcefully prevent a steamship loaded with Jews from Hamburg from landing on the American coast. Churchill threatened to torpedo another cargo of Jews sailing to Palestine at Sulina in the Black Sea. In February 1942, the "Struma," a ship carrying Jewish refugees from Romania, was refused permission to disembark by the British and, also turned back by the Turks, sank in the Black Sea: 770 people drowned(18).
In the Promised Land, the British shot and hanged rebellious Jews to discourage further landings.
Also little known is the story of Anne Frank's family, who unsuccessfully sought refuge in the United States. Between April 30 and December 11, 1941, Otto Frank, Anne's father, repeatedly wrote to relatives, friends, and high-ranking American officials, explaining that he was ready to make "any sacrifice" to cross the Atlantic Ocean, but each time the response was negative. Richard Breitman, a historian at American University, observes:
"Their attempted emigration to the United States links the Franks to thousands of European Jews, especially Germans, who found their doors barred by the laws of the time."
After the end of the war, the "liberators" decreed the creation of Israel, effectively placing the burden of responsibility on the Palestinians for having done nothing to prevent the Nazi persecution of the Jewish people and for having forcibly refused to accept Jewish refugees fleeing Germany. Unlike Fascist Italy, which worked to welcome and protect them.
Returning to the racial laws of 1938, these were undoubtedly a deplorable act, but it would be morally unjust and historically wrong not to recognize that the many Jews who escaped the concentration camps and were saved were due precisely to him, to Mussolini.

(13) On March 24, 1933, three months after Hitler's election to the Reich Chancellery, the American Jewish Congress declared economic and financial war on the new Germany and a total embargo on German products in order to strangle its economy. The German government reacted by implementing, in retaliation, a one-day boycott of Jewish shops in Germany on April 1, 1933. It should be noted that German Jews, especially Zionist Jews, resented the boycott of German goods ordered by the Jewish International.
(14) In Sweden, between 1934 and 1996, the sterilizations mainly concerned the handicapped, the mentally ill, the asocial, criminals, ethnic minorities, mixed-race indigenous people, and prostitutes, all accused of burdening public welfare and of being carriers of diseases and lifestyles with high social costs. Forced sterilization remained in force until 1976, when a new law made the consent of those concerned mandatory. (16) Some concentration camps were nevertheless bombed, such as the Buchenwald concentration camp where Mafalda di Savoia died under the rubble, but as a collateral effect or by mistake and not by the express will of the Allies.
